For Teachers
Transportation is powerful. Every day it fuels our freedom, enriches our lives and drives the development of our culture. Use the Heroes Center to help bring your lessons to life.
The Heroes Center is a fun, interactive tool for demonstrating how the story of transportation is more about the people of transportation rather than the things of transportation. It gives your students the chance to learn about all modes of transportation, from roadways and railways to waterways and airways, all within one web site. And it shares the stories of everyday people who have figured out ways to move us from place to place and allow the growth of commerce.
Encourage your students to nominate the transportation hero in their lives. Everyone can participate. There is no age limit for individuals who submit nominations.
Looking forward — Be sure to return to the Heroes Center in 2008 when it launches in its full format. The site will feature interviews, videos, histories and other supplementary information that can be used in your curriculum.
In addition, a traveling version of The Heroes Center will make its way to schools across Iowa and the nation to further promote this unique opportunity for students of all ages to become involved in our nation’s ongoing story of transportation.
