Jane Berg accepts award on behalf of Neta Snook, who was inducted into the Transportation Museum May 20
Friday was a big day in Lake Ponerosa resident Jane Berg's life.
Berg, the chief flight instructor and program director of the Indian Hills Aviation Department, was given a special honor on behalf of the late Neta Snook, the first woman aviator in Iowa who went on to teach Amelia Earhart how to fly.
Snook was one of eight Iowans inducted into the Iowa Transportation Museum Heroes Program during a brief ceremony and luncheon on Friday, May 20, at the Grinnell Elks BOP Lodge #1266.

Merlin Manatt, one of the founders of Manatt's Inc., was inducted into he Iowa Transportation Museum Heroes Program in Grinnell on Friday, May 20.
Merlin was named to the Heroes of Industry and Technology class for a lifetime of contributions to the transportation field. He was one of two in that class and eight overall to be inducted into the heroes program, which is in its third year.

ITM inducts 10 Iowans into Transportation Heroes Center Friday
The Iowa Transportation Museum (ITM) inducted ten honorees into its Transportation Heroes Center in a ceremony in a packed Caulkins Room at the Drake Community Library Sept. 17. Three o the inductees were Grinnellians—James Kottmeier, Billy Robinson and Henry Spaulding---and three more live in the nearby towns of New Sharon, Montezuma and Victor. Living honorees were present for their induction, and those no longer living were represented by a family member or the person who made the nomination. Lynn Cavanagh accepted on behalf of Billy Robinson whom she nominated, and Nathan Zornes, 7, a descendent of Henry Spaulding, accepted the award on his ancestor’s behalf.

The Iowa Transportation Museum proudly announces the launch of the Transportation Heroes Center, an interactive and educational Web-based exhibit. Paying tribute to individuals who have made significant contributions to Iowa’s rich transportation heritage, the exhibit inspires the next generation of transportation innovators and serves as the online centerpiece of the Iowa Transportation Museum, currently in development in Grinnell.
